Miskiyaku Wedding Bells

On Saturday, February 23, all the kids and adults from Casa del Aguila joined the surrounding communities to celebrate the wedding of Eliazar and Olga.

It was a real community event with 200 guests there for the church service and the meal that followed. In many ways, it was a traditional wedding that we would be accustomed to in North America but it was also very different.

The location was extremely remote and yet very beautiful. Most people walked to the church and the few of us that drove had to navigate a deeply rutted mountain road/trail. We have no idea how the wedding cakes survived the journey up the mountain in one piece!! The wedding was supposed to start at 11:00 a.m. but didn’t start until noon and it was all over by 6:00 p.m. including the meal and dancing. Check out the video below to see more of the wedding.
